Authorities in Australia arrested and charged a man for allegedly importing five kilograms of methamphetamine from the United States.

According to a press release from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), authorities arrested a 62-year-old West Australian man for allegedly importing five kilograms of methamphetamine. The arrest, which took place on August 10, followed an investigation by the AFP and Australian Border Force.

australiamethOn August 4, the Australian Border Force intercepted a “suspicious package” sent from the United States. The customs declaration form identified the package contents as documents. ABF officers opened the package and discovered multiple A4-size envelopes. In between sheets of paper in the envelopes, ABF officers found methamphetamine.

The ABF handed over the package to AFP officers to complete the investigation. Officers removed the methamphetamine from the envelopes. They then conducted a controlled delivery of the package on August 10.

The 62-year-old accepted delivery of the package. Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence later that day. They discovered the contents of the package inside a bag in a hallway in the suspect’s house.

The officers then arrested the suspect. They charged him with importing a commercial quantity of border-controlled drugs and attempting to possess a commercial quantity of border-controlled drugs.

Officers with the AFP are investigating possible co-conspirators at this time.
